Drawin Project Numero Uno

So on Wednesday we used all things black n' grey (charcoal, loose charcoal, ink, diluted ink, graphite, microns, etc) to make a large scale 'loose' form compilation of a bunch of natural shit we brought in. She didn't necessarily want it to be realistic, but just so it covered the whole page. Once it was all finished she told us that the second half of the final project is to cut/rip up the thing we just did and make a collage out of it. It could be whatever we wanted. It will be graded on complexity and presentation.
Here is the whole thing- It's pretty huge. There a cactus stick thing, a fuzzy seed pod, wheat grass, a leaf, rock- you get the picture.

This was my favorite part--- I KNOW what it looks like, lol It's still my favorite part. whatev. SO, we have to rip/ cut up the huge compilation and place it in a collage to form somethin great.

I want to do this portrait of Bette Davis. ('Betty Davis Eyes'- Had that song in my head all weekend)

I took the photo and adjusted the levels, and posterized it in photoshop to get the difference in shades/ highlights here (below).

Because my boyfriend loves me, he traced out the levels for me. THAT is what was transferred onto the 24x18 canvas. Now I just have to cut up my original nature compilation and place the shades of grey accordingly. hopefully when I am finished it will resemble the portrait pretty closely. I'm excited! Manny is lending me his eyes tonight. I will take pictures throughout the process.. more to come!

I pulled an all-nighter like a retard and finished my collage. I have pictures of earlier stages (that I conned Manny into taking :) ) As soon as I upload I'll post one.

For now though....
